Description
In 1628 the first version of Heinrich Schütz’s “Becker's Psalter” was published. The composer used the complete German "Reimpsalter" by the Leipzig theologian Cornelius Becker (published in 1602) as a textual basis.
The four-part movements by Schütz enjoyed great popularity even during his lifetime. Conceived as a vocal work, and modestly called by him as «HaussMusic», the movements can also be performed with a mixed vocal/instrumental instrumentation. A purely instrumental setting with recorders, viols or other melody instruments is particularly appealing.
