Description

The Christmas story is said to have taken place in the West Bank a little over 2000 years ago. In the Orient: with palm trees and camels. But without snow and without reindeer. And also without Santa Claus. There are reports of three wise astrologers - today also known as the three wise men - who followed the star of Bethlehem to pay homage to Jesus at his manger.

In the “Advent Calendar” Raphael B. Meyer captures this scenery. In addition to chorale-like movements and pieces in the old style, he also woven oriental elements into the music.

The 24 pieces included are set as a duets (melody and bass instrument), but the melody part can also be performed as a solo. The pieces are fairly easy in terms of difficulty so that they can be played from sight or after a short period of practice. The melody voice is suitable for many instruments: recorder (soprano, alto or tenor), flute, oboe, violin, viol a.o. The bass voice is suitable, for example, for bass recorder, bassoon, violoncello or viol. All movements are provided with chord information so that the music can be supplemented with accompanying instruments.
