From the vocal form of the French chanson, the special instrumental composition developed in Italy Canzona french. The anthology Musiche Italiane contains four-part canzones by well-known and famous masters of their time: Luzzasco Luzzaschi, Florentio Maschera, Giovanni Battista Grillo, Giuseppe Guami, Claudio Merulo and Pietro Lappi.
All of the compositions in this edition can be played on recorders, viola da gamba, in a string quartet or with other melody instruments. In the Download Area (the password is printed in the score) the altus part in otcavated notation for treble recorders and the tenor part in alto clef for viols or viols can be downloaded free of charge.
